Legacy code modernization

Modernize the system you can't afford to lose.

The Access database, the VB6 app, the classic ASP site, the custom system whose developer retired: rebuilt or carefully migrated, with your data and history intact and production never stopping.

What we do.

The Access database, the VB6 app, the classic ASP site: rebuilt or carefully migrated, with your data and history intact.

  • Assessment first

We read the code and the data, document what the system actually does (often more than anyone remembers), and tell you whether to rebuild, migrate or bridge.

  • Migration with the data intact

Records moved, totals reconciled against the old system before cutover, and the old data kept readable.

  • Staged cutover

The new system runs alongside the old one, module by module, so the business never stops for a rewrite.

  • Documented handover

Source code, documentation and supported platforms, so the system outlives any one developer, including us.

What the audit covers.

  1. 1Systems auditTwenty minutes, free. What you run, what's breaking, what to fix first.
  2. 2Fixed-fee scopeA written Statement of Work with a fixed price. Half at signing, half on delivery.

Signs you need it.

  • It only runs on one PC, and nobody is allowed to restart it.
  • The developer who built it has retired, and nobody has the source code.
  • It can't be backed up, moved, or connected to anything newer.

How we work.

No open-ended hourly billing, and no system you can’t take with you.

Questions about legacy code modernization.

Do we have to replace the whole thing at once?

Almost never. We usually start with the riskiest or most painful piece, rebuild that alongside the old system, and move the rest in stages. Businesses often keep parts of the old system for years, connected through a bridge.

What if we don't have the source code?

It's common. We can often recover the data directly from the database or files, document the behavior from the running system, and rebuild from that. The free systems audit is where we find out what's possible.

Will our old data still be there?

Yes. Migration is reconciled, not just copied: we compare totals and record counts against the old system before anyone cuts over, and the old data stays readable afterwards.
